What Is a Plastic Sheet Extrusion Line?


A plastic sheet extrusion production line is an industrial manufacturing system designed to melt plastic raw materials or recycled plastic materials in an extruder and continuously extrude them through a flat die head, thereby forming plastic sheets or films of uniform thickness.

The specifications of these sheets vary widely, ranging from sub-millimeter thick films used for food packaging to heavy-duty sheets up to tens of millimeters thick used in the automotive, construction, and signage industries.

Plastic sheet extrusion production lines have a wide production range and can typically produce rigid or semi-rigid sheets of various materials with thicknesses ranging from 0.1 mm to 50 mm.

Key Quality Control for Plastic Sheet Manufacturing

Quality issues and solutions in plastic sheet production:

1. Thickness deviation: Monitor thickness deviation in real-time using an online thickness gauge. Control thickness fluctuations by fine-tuning the die gap and matching roller temperatures with haul-off speeds. Closed-loop control can also be implemented by linking the online thickness gauge to automatic die adjustment bolts and haul-off speed controls.

2. Transparency: Stabilize extrusion temperatures, ensure raw material purity, and prevent the formation of "fish-eyes" (gel particles). Precisely control the roll temperatures and gaps of the three-roll calender to optimize crystallinity and ensure desired transparency and haze levels.

3. Winding quality: Match tension control to production speed to avoid wrinkling and uneven winding tightness. Implement synchronized closed-loop control across the entire system, linking extrusion, haul-off, and winding parameters.

How to choose extruder between a single-screw and a twin-screw for sheet production?

Single-screw extruders offer a high cost-performance ratio and are suitable for standard materials such as PP PE, featuring simple operation and easy maintenance. Twin-screw extruders provide superior mixing, venting, and processing capabilities, offering distinct advantages when handling PET, PVC, various material blends, and recycled materials.

Is it possible to co-extrude multiple materials and recycle materials?

We offer multi-layer co-extrusion sheet production lines, such as common ABS+HIPS co-extrusion and PC+PMMA co-extrusion, as well as ABA and ABC types virgin and recycled materials co-extrusion.
